About the Resort

Haramara Retreat was named one of the '10 Best Yoga Retreats in the World’ by Yoga Journal magazine. Haramara (“Mother Sea” in the native Huichol Indian language) is an exclusive, intimate and secluded seaside resort offering superior mind-body-spirit experiences along with sensual tropical harmony to every guest.

Deep thought and consideration was given to the placement and location of every structure at Haramara, so as to remain “at-one” with the spirit of the land, the jungle and the beach, with minimal environmental impact. The resort has been built without mechanical equipment compromising the virgin jungle and every structure has been hand-built using traditional construction methods. The planning of Haramara took into consideration the environment and the quality of your experience.

Scattered across the beautiful tropical hillside, each individual cabaña has been hand-built of all natural materials and offers exceptional views of the ocean and jungle canopy.  Each cabaña is situated to offer privacy and seclusion while still taking advantage of the spectacular views.

Your gastronomical experience at Haramara will be exquisite.  Enjoy delicious vegetarian gourmet meals served in our spacious open air dining room with spectacular views that overlook the jungle and the ocean.  All meals are tastefully prepared with fresh local ingredients and beautifully served with artistic presentations.

Haramara is located 45 minutes north of the Puerto Vallarta airport, near the quaint town of Sayulita, in the spectacular Pacific coastal region known as Riviera Nayarit, Mexico.

FAQs & Safety Precautions

What airport do I fly into?

You will need to book an international roundtrip flight to Puerto Vallarta (PVR). Airfare is not included in retreat pricing.

Do I need to get trip insurance?

We highly recommend getting trip insurance to protect your investment.

What are the accommodations like?

Each cabaña is private and secluded and has its own private bathroom with a shower, a flush toilet, hot and cold water and organic soap. The private cabañas are open-air with no windows or screens. Hammocks are provided inside most cabanas depending on space available. Sleep in a super comfy bed with hand-woven sheets and enjoy the organic cotton towels after a refreshing shower. Beach & pool towels will be provided.
The dormitory is a large open room and will accommodate up to eight people in individual beds. There are two bathrooms, one at each end of the dorm, to accommodate up to four people each. In each bathroom there are two showers, two sinks and a toilet.

What if I am traveling alone?

Great! You will make tons of new friends! If you prefer a private room please be sure to book the single occupancy option.

Do I need a visa for travel to Mexico?

No, you do not. During your flight to Puerto Vallarta you will be given a document to fill out which you will then need to present to the immigration official upon your entry into Mexico. BE SURE YOU KEEP THIS PIECE OF PAPER FOR YOUR DEPARTURE. You will be asked for this upon check-in for your return flight home. If you do not have this piece of paper there will be a fine and the hassle of redoing all of this paperwork on the spot!

What is the weather like in Sayulita?

The Central Pacific Coast of Mexico is surrounded by jungle and receives 345 days of sunshine per year. Located on the same latitude as the Hawaiian Islands, its sub-tropical climate is often compared to Hawaii's. The rainy season is June through October with August and September being considered as the two “rainy” months.
The months of March, April, May, October and November are warm (upper 70s to low 80s).
December, January and February are comfortable (low to mid 70s) but can be chilly at night (low to
mid 60s). June, July, August and September are hot (mid 80s to low 90s) and humid.

Is there electricity?

There is no electricity in the cabanas. They are illuminated at night with oil lamps and candles. You will be unable to use any small electrical appliances like hair dryers, curling irons or razors. There is no outdoor lighting so you will need to bring a flashlight or a headlamp for use at night. There are electrical outlets in the dining room, pool terrace and yoga shalas for recharging electronic devices and batteries. It is the same voltage as the U.S. so no converter is needed.

Are airport transfers included in the price of my trip?

No, airport transfers are not included in your trip. However, once you have your flight information, the resort, Haramara, will organize your airport transfer. The total cost of the transfer from the airport to/from Haramara is $65-$100 based on the number of passengers in the van. Your driver will collect the fee and US dollars are accepted. Haramara will advise on the exact cost of your transfer pertaining to total passengers 1-2 weeks before departure.

Are meals included in my program cost?

Yes, 3 delicious and healthy gourmet meals a day are provided and made from only the freshest natural and local ingredients. The menu is chosen daily by the chef based on the ingredients that are available. The always-changing daily menu includes seafood or vegetarian dishes. Special dietary restrictions or requirements can be accommodated. Please be sure to note these in your registration form.

Coffee and fresh squeezed juice is offered in the mornings. Tea, purified water and fresh fruit water are available all day. Alcoholic beverages are available for purchase at lunch and dinner.

Are gratuities included?

Tips for the kitchen, dining & housekeeping staff are not included in your trip price. We suggest that you budget $15 U.S. per day/person or $100 US per week/person. This will be shared amongst all the service staff. You may leave this with the hotel manager at the end of your stay. Gratuities for the Spa Staff need to be paid directly to them at the time of service. All gratuities should be paid in cash.

Do I require any vaccinations to travel to Mexico?

No vaccinations are required to enter Mexico. However, you may want to check with your doctor for more information on vaccinations.

Is Wifi available at Haramara?

There is no wifi at Haramara Retreat. However, if you would like to use your phone during your stay, you can purchase international data or you can go to one of the internet cafes in the town of Sayulita, which is a five minute taxi ride away. We will also provide you with emergency contact information before departure.

How many people are expected to join on this retreat?

We are expecting 20-25 guests.

What is the cancellation policy?

A $500 non-refundable/non-transferable deposit is required to hold your spot. Cancellations prior to April 3rd, 2024 will receive a refund of the payment minus the non-refundable deposit, plus a $500 cancellation fee (-$1000 total). All payments are non-refundable & non-transferable after April 3rd, 2024. This policy is firm in order to offset costs incurred prior to the commencement of retreat. As a reminder, we highly recommend purchasing trip insurance.
